Freevo is a media platform that brings together various applications for video recording and playback. Under its open format, the user can fully customize Freevo to suit their media viewing needs. Because Freevo is on an open platform, users can create plugins that do things TiVo and other PVRs cannot... Its main feature is its ability to schedule and record television broadcasts.Freevo: Freedom For Your TV by Howard Wen, 01/27/2005 ![]() Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 02:36 PM

From O'Reilly Network, "Mind Hacks is a collection of probes into the moment-by-moment works of the brain. Using cognitive neuroscience, these experiments, tricks, and tips related to vision, motor skills, attention, cognition, subliminal perception, and more throw light on how the human brain works. Each "hack" examines specific operations of the brain. By seeing how the brain responds, we pick up clues about the architecture and design of the brain, learning a little bit more about how the brain is put together."

This just in... from Creative Commons chairman Lawrence Lessig. He released his new book, Free Culture today, both online, a licensed downloadable version and in stores. The book covers the current state of copyright law and what it means to our culture and society. Give it a look, and if you like what you see, ordering online will contribute a small percentage to Creative Commons.UPDATE: "Free Culture" popup audiobook UPDATE2: Business 2.0 article, Giving It Away (for Fun and Profit). This comes from GrepLaw, a production of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society. In the latest issue of Wired, there is an excerpt from Lessig's new book, Free Culture. Right from the get go, he pulls no punches: "If piracy means using the creative property of others without their permission, then the history of the content industry is a history of piracy...."
