Yesterday's Planetwork forum was a real success. It was an interesting mix of online initiative presentations with one consistent theme being the leveraging of "social" networking technologies for progressive causes. There was genuine enthusiasm for WatershedWeb, both for our watershed focus and the CivicSpace code package features...
Pam from Planet Waves indicated that the WatershedWeb toolset would be useful in her groups goals of raising watershed and land use awareness while Anselm, creator of thingster was intrigued by our using watersheds as an organizational theme. His project features online mapping services and I feel we can potentially benefit in the implementation of our own mapping service by networking with Anselm and a group he introduced me to, locative. Imaginify was presented by Jair and emphasizes "a collaborative exploration connecting creative movements and magnifying grassroots efforts".
The ID Commons initiative was center stage at this event. Jon, the presenter from interraproject.org asserted CiviSpace was to integrate support for it and there are apparently plans to evaluate it by the CivicSpace team. In any case WatershedWeb plans to integrate support for it as a community. They're having a special meeting tomorrow AM expressly about IDC but, being a working stiff, I won't be making that. Kaliya, indicated that this thursday, IDC "handles" would be available for registration; they're asking for a $25 donated registration fee to help fund the initiative. I will say that I very much support the concept of the persistent, single sign-on ID supported by a collective of like-minded groups, projects and people (as opposed to corporate or governmental entities) and based on mutual trust! -posted by sasquatch at watershedweb dot net
