From Slashdot.org, "From the people who gave you the Internet Archive comes Ourmedia, a place for grassroots media to flourish. Upload anything, maybe a video, some pictures, your custom applescript, and it gets hosted for free, for life. Drupal is hosting the site, and the Internet Archive is providing hosting and bandwidth for the files." The site is very bogged down right now, so be patient...

There are some new Codes emerging in the cyber-blogo-terrain... Google Code, Google's place for Open Source software. And Lawrence Lessig's Code v.2 (published in late 2005), the now-traditional view of the Internet as an uncontrollable, organic entity on its head, and explores the architecture and social systems that are changing every day and taming the frontier. Coders have already started their engines, now it is time to ramp up the community to new heights.

"Intellectual property is the incentive system for the products of the future." -Microsoft 2005. OR how about a different alternative? From the Stream of Consciosness of Fen; "OpenPrivacy is the first open platform that enables user control over personal data". For individuals, "an i-name is a universal private address. A single unified lifetime address that only you control, so it never has to change no matter how many times you move, change jobs, change email addresses..." And now is there a co-intellgent dialogue in, out and around this issue?

The mayor says San Francisco plans to rapidly expand its free wireless Internet access program and will soon make free computers available at housing projects and community centers ... "We will not stop until every San Franciscan has access to free wireless Internet service," Mayor Gavin Newsom declared in his first State of the City address.

Nanoletters reports, "a solar cell made with spinach has been developed that promises electronic devices incorporating photosynthesis, the highly efficient process plants use to produce energy from sunlight....Initial tests showed that the rudimentary device could convert 12 percent of the light it absorbed into an electrical charge, and researchers think they can increase that output to 20 percent by thickening the amount of biological material on the substrate."

A Free Network is a network freely available to anyone. With proper computer/wifi equipment you can send and recieve data from any point/node in the network to any point/node in the network without paying transit fees. A Node is a user computer/server with a wireless-network interface card that can be acting as a hot spot. A hot spot is a place where you can access Wi-Fi service.

Wired magazine has a great article in their May 2004 issue on "gene science [that] is Earth-friendly and all-natural." So...genetic engineering our food may be not the best course of action afterall. Thank goodness! For example, savory, high-yield fruit (that) would ripen on the vine and remain firm in transit...Researchers are beginning to understand plants so precisely that they no longer need transgenics to achieve traits like drought resistance, durability, or increased nutritional value."

A friend from Norway turned us on to Marcin Jakubowski, PhD. He is the founder of The Open Source Ecology Project, a nonprofit research and education institution creating open access to sustainable, healthy, and affordable ways of living. (1) open access to practical knowledge, (2) the collaborative development of working economic models via the nonprofit sector, and (3) education, demonstration, and training aimed at integrated, ecological, regenerative social enterprise. The process by which they attain the above is called Open Source Development, a collaborative, open process which builds on past knowledge and leverages public collaboration.

Education, Open Source, Open Access Archives and..collections of free books and textbooks. An exellent example is Schoolforge, a foundry. Where you will find the information, the tools and materials you need to "forge" or make a school and all its parts. All free for the asking (or download), and, in the future, international in content and character, schoolforge is not a place or an organization, but a cause, and a collection of people and projects dedicated to it: bringing quality, affordable and dependable software and teaching materials to the people who need them around the world. As such, it is not a "service" so much as it is a community focal point, which, as much as anything else, represents an opportunity to get involved in one of its aspects.
